Safe Grocery Shopping During Covid-19

Have a clean mask ready for wearing
If using re-usable shopping bags, make sure they have been washed in hot water and soap; have two sets for rotation
Have a shopping list ready
Make sure your hands are sanitized at the entrance to the store
If there is a queue to enter the store, do keep to the demarcated areas for social distancing
Make sure you sanitize trolley handles with sanitizer wipes or sanitizer spray provided by the store
Move quickly through the store using your shopping list
Maintain social distancing in the store in the aisles; ask others politely to keep their distance if they are not doing so
Sanitize your hands on the way out of the store after touching surfaces, credit card machines etc
When arriving home, carry shopping into the home and place on a clean surface
Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water thoroughly first for 20 seconds
Unpack the groceries and throw away plastic bags if not re-usable; however, try to use re-usable bags to prevent more plastic from polluting the environment!

There is no evidence that food and food packaging transmits SARS-CoV-2
Masks are not a replacement for social distancing!
Do NOT wash vegetables and fruit in soap or any disinfectant like bleach, alcohol and similar products – these are toxic to humans and can cause nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea if ingested
Wash vegetables and fruit in fresh, clean water – this is more than enough
Do not rinse raw chicken in the kitchen sink – rinsing will not remove any bacteria that may be present and your kitchen sink will then be contaminated with those bacteria, some of which can cause food poisoning

When groceries are delivered, have the person delivering, ring your doorbell or call you upon arrival and leave the packages at your door
Wait until they leave and retrieve your purchases
Handle them in the same way as mentioned above
